Composition and Literature

Course Purpose: Composition and Literature will explore the various elements of the written word through student writing, oral presentation, and the study of short stories, poetry, novels, and plays.  

Course Goal: The primary goal of the course is to create an appreciation for God’s gift of written communication and the important role this medium plays in the professional world.  The students will refine their writing skills through frequent paragraph and essay development and understand the proper structure of academic writing.  The students also will gain increased breadth and depth in their knowledge of the literary canon as they develop analytic and critical thinking skills.  Through this process, students will challenge personal beliefs and become active participants in the world.  Ultimately this course will assist students in reaching a genuine appreciation for various literary genres while improving their written and oral communication.
